If you’re the type of person that’s bad with directions, you may want to rethink the idea of vacationing in New Orleans. Worse yet, if you’re bad with directions and won’t ask for help, you’ll quickly get lost in the city. That’s why maps are essential.
Renaming Of The Streets:
One of the big problems for travelers in New Orleans is the fact that the streets are renamed in two different ways. First, there’s the fact that a street in the city can just suddenly change names on you, as you walk down it. In fact, some streets don’t just have different names on each end, but many sections of the street may have different names.
That’s because New Orleans is a city of immigrants and those of different nationalities have changed the street names in their sections of town, over the years. The result is that something that seems like one street may have four different names, or even more. So, you have to stay on your toes, spicily when you are looking for one of New Orleans hotels.
The other type of street renaming is when the name of an entire street changes within the city. For example, you might hear locals refer to Craps, or Chapeaux, which is what we now know as one of the most famous streets in town, Bourbon Street. The street was originally named because of the idea that the French taught the Americans the game of craps. It was later renamed in honor of the reigning family during the French settlement of the area, the House of Bourbon.
